The Vanishing Design Wall

Sue Kelsey

Providing Beauty, Form and Function

Sue Kelsey knows an entrepreneurial opportunity when she sees it.  A quilt designer friend relayed to her how awkward it can be to lay fabric pieces into patterns if you don’t have a good place to do it.  Many use the floor, a bed or a flannel sheet hanging over a closet which makes it difficult to live and work around.   "Why doesn't someone design a retractable one, like the maps in elementary school" Sue asked, and the concept for the Vanishing Design Wall was born.

Sue’s company, La Su LLC, manufactures and sells The Vanishing Design Wall™ for quilters, which is a self storing design area that doubles as a decorative display shelf.  The decorative shelf is made of knotty pine, available unfinished or professionally stained and varnished in Honey or Chocolate.

The retractable insert is made of heavy flannel with vinyl backing and mounted on a steel rod with a super heavy duty steel spring which enables a quilter’s design to "vanish" when they are not working on it!  The fabric will roll up - allowing the designer to pick up where she left off, all pieces in tact!

Getting ready to ship product to customers

With a Vanishing Design Wall you can have a flannel wall to design your project without giving up valuable wall space.  It can be mounted above a closet, or on any wall with other photos/decor items below it.

A $25,000 Utah microenterprise loan enabled Sue to purchase initial inventory, a trailer to travel to quilt shows and other operating expenses.  One year later, Sue has sold over 1,200 units!  The Vanishing Design Wall can be directly purchased in Utah at Quilt, Etc. or Elaine’s Quilt Block.  It can be purchased on-line at www.vanishingdesignwall.com.   Ask Sue how the Utah Microenterprise Loan Fund helped her create her own career and build a brighter future for herself and her family!

“After being denied a Small Business Loan from a Bank, they referred me to UMLF - I didn't really understand what they did.  Mentioned it to a friend and she raved about them.  She was right - and they helped make the process so smooth!  They have been so supportive!”
